What it is and what it's for
Ultrasound produces real-time images from the echo of high-frequency sound waves — with no ionizing radiation. It is the highest-volume imaging exam in outpatient practice: fast, dynamic, and performed at the patient's side, from the office to the operating room. Study quality depends on the combination of machine + probes + operator, which is why choosing the configuration matters as much as choosing the equipment itself.
