What it is and what it's for
The surgical light illuminates the operative field — high-intensity LED (100k–160k lux), articulated arms for free positioning, color-temperature control (3500–5000K) and adjustable spot diameter. LED replaced halogen for three reasons: ~20× longer lifespan (40k+ h vs 2k), less heat on the field (less tissue drying) and better color rendering (CRI 95+). Modern systems include a satellite head, integrated camera for telemedicine/teaching and touch-free (gesture) control that keeps the surgeon aseptic.

What to evaluate when choosing
- Luminous flux: 100k lux (routine), 160k+ lux (cardio, deep orthopedic)
- Field diameter: 15–30 cm, adjustable mid-procedure
- Head count: single (routine) or dual (satellite for the assistant)
- Adjustable color temperature (3500–5000K): superficial vs deep tissue
- Color Rendering Index (CRI) ≥ 95: essential to tell healthy from diseased tissue
- Touch-free control (gesture, sensor): keeps the surgeon aseptic
- Integrated HD/4K camera with streaming for classroom / telemedicine

An LED burning out mid-week means rescheduled surgeries and an idle OR. In the Blue contract, preventive service schedules LED module replacement before end of life, corrective response runs under SLA with critical parts (power supply, driver, head) and support is 24/7 — the OR does not become a mid-week parts quote.
