What it is and what it's for
The fluid management system is the pump that feeds the endoscopic surgical field with saline at controlled pressure and flow — keeping the joint distended in arthroscopy, the bladder irrigated in urologic surgery and the field clear in endoscopy. A sensor reads real pressure at the cannula and the motor tunes the pump in real time so it never crosses the tissue safety threshold, preventing extravasation and systemic fluid absorption — rare but severe events in shoulder arthroscopy, urology and hysteroscopy.
