What it is and what it's for
The electrosurgical platform (electric scalpel) uses high-frequency current to cut and coagulate tissue during surgery — replacing the cold scalpel in most procedures. In monopolar (return pad) and bipolar (between forceps tips) modes, the surgeon selects power and waveform for pure cut, spray coag or vessel sealing. Modern platforms add vessel sealing by thermofusion (up to 7 mm) and argon plasma coagulation (APC) for surface hemostasis in liver, spleen and bowel wall — essential in general, oncologic and hepatobiliary ORs.
